Effective Representation – Strategic Planning
Kevin’s family law and divorce practice focuses on divorce, custody, support and property division issues. Aware of the costs and uncertainty that accompany litigation, Kevin’s initial goal always is to resolve matters outside of court, but he is prepared to litigate, if that ultimately becomes necessary.
Kevin’s wealth of experience allows him to provide clients with an understanding of how to structure and negotiate divorce settlements and to assist them in determining how they should manage their assets and investments during divorce proceedings. Kevin assesses the short-term and long-term effects of dividing property, as well as of paying or receiving child support, spousal support/APL, and alimony. Working together with the client, Kevin develops a comprehensive road map to achieving satisfying results at the end of the divorce.
In order to tailor his approach to the individual client’s situation, Kevin reviews his client’s goals for life after divorce, which review includes analyzing the client’s future earnings and earning potential, projecting earnings on investments, collecting asset and expense data, determining whether the client can assume the expenses of maintaining existing real estate properties, if desired, and calculating what the client can afford in terms of monthly living expenses going forward.
In cases involving divorcing couples with children, Kevin guides clients and assists them with understanding which child-specific expenses they should anticipate, in terms of their children’s educational expenses (before and during college), childcare expenses, etc., so they can understand and plan for the use of assets received pursuant to equitable distribution.
Highly Effective Trial Attorney
By all accounts, Kevin is best known for his proven track record of successfully litigating challenging custody cases. While it is always his intent to settle custody issues (like all other issues) outside of court, as he believes this approach is in the best interests of the children and their parents, Kevin is, without a doubt, a talented and persuasive litigator who is meticulously prepared for court. At the outset, Kevin works with the client to establish his or her objectives for his or her particular custody situation, and he then strives to help the client meet those objectives. Kevin spends hours to thoroughly prepare his clients and put them at ease before testifying in court. Kevin goes through each necessary piece of evidence in great detail to ensure that the case is adequately prepared for presentation in court, and he excels in court as a result of this dedication to in-depth preparation.
